Juliet

Explain three moments in the text where Juliet has little control over her own fate. Use quotes to support your explanations of your chosen moments.

One of situations where Juliet cannot control her own fate is when she is not allowed to leave her house and be out in the open because she is a women. This effects her because she cannot contact Romeo about problems and situations. She has to rely on the Nurse to connect the dots between her and Romeo.

Another situation is when she is being forced to marry Paris, she is put against her will in this point of time. This does deeply effect the storyline because she would not have taken the vile of poison that drugged her. This offset the fatal outcome of the play.

When she takes that vile she is unconscious and unable to possibly control situations that arose in the point in time she was drugged. She cannot control or have an impact in Romeo and other characters that appear in the time she was not ‘living’.

Sometimes, Juliet acknowledges the outcome of the play without actually knowing it. Write down three quotations from moments in the play when she does this and explain how your selected quotation indicates her fate.

“Delay this marriage for a month, a week. Or, if you do not, make the bridal bed in that dim monument where Tybalt lies.”

In this phrase, she is declaring that she will kill herself if her forced marriage is not delayed.
